Qajaq TC (Michigan Training Camp) is a truly unique traditional paddlers gathering.

The first event was in August of 2002 and, from the start, we have been affiliated with Qajaq USA. In fact, Qajaq TC was the first ‘all Greenland’ Qajaq USA event in the country.

One can rightfully state this is a full immersion event. There is no access by road, so start paddling! Our spectacular venue creates a truly intimate atmosphere. You will be among sixty (60) individuals representing a broad range of skills who want to do one thing — share and gain experience.

In 2010 we had, as our special guest, Adam Hansen from Greenland. Adam has served as a board member of Qajaq Aasiaat, is a past participant in the Greenland National Kayaking Championships, and kayaking guide for the Aasiaat Tourist Service. Our 2010 mentors included Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson, and the family of John McConnell, Jane Taylor and Emmett Dooley. David Sides led the coaching for rope gymnastics with the able assistance of Heather Lamon, one of the bright young stars in this discipline. Heather was in Greenland this summer and we enjoyed hearing from both Heather and Adam . . . two different perspectives on a special place.

As a new addition to our schedule, we offered a paddlemaking workshop under the leadership of Don Beale of Beale Paddles. Don has led several courses in past years at SSTIKS and Delmarva Paddlers Retreat. We were excited to have him join us! It is nearly impossible to find a custom Greenland paddle through most commercial outlets. This was a marvelous opportunity to create a personalized paddle at a fraction of the cost.

For those of us that joined us – thank you.

We hope you’ll consider joining us next year!

Comments from the QUSA Greenland Forum . . .

“Food, folks, and location could not be better!!!!!! “

“I’m still amazed at the total quality of the weekend”

“You are to be commended on your hospitality, friendliness and openness in accepting new members to the kayaking community.”

“The “TC” is close and informal and feels more like a gathering of good friends than a “typical symposium”. The people, location and the food are wonderful.”

“Anyone who has interest in greenlandic kayaks, skills and equipment would thoroughly enjoy what this camp has to offer.
