Qajaq USA Demo Gear

Qajaq USA Demo Gear

This event is formatted for the use of the narrow blade traditional “Greenland style” paddle. You can show up with a modern wide blade “Euro” paddle, but there won’t be anything for you to do until you borrow one of our demonstration paddles!

The founders of Qajaq TC felt the most effective approach to learning was peer-to-peer mentoring. Everyone teaches . . . everyone learns. We work in small groups with as much one on one attention as possible. The sessions are led by our mentors, but everyone is encouraged to reinforce the skills they’re learning through helping others.

All skill levels are welcomed, from the very beginner to the most advanced Greenland style paddler.

On water sessions will include the forward canted stroke, sculling techniques, and rolling for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. And this isn’t all about rolling! We will offer opportunities to learn ropes gymnastics, throw harpoons and to use the unique approaches to rescues involving low volume skin on frame kayaks.

Believe it or not, we even go paddling! Sessions will be offered on basic strokes moving through a sequence that will improve your maneuvering and kayak handling skills. Conditions permitting we will be venturing out to the big water, Lake Michigan, for a more advanced session.

“I cannot tell who are the students and which of them are instructors. And right there, the tone of the weekend is set . . . Everyone is active. Everyone is into it. Everyone is learning and, as it turns out, almost everyone is teaching.” — TC participant
